Joan Jett y estrella de televisión, Marco Antonio Regil, reciben reconocimientos de PETA presentados por Iggy Pop en una recepción en Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Fla – La leyenda del rock Joan Jett y el presentador de televisión Marco Antonio Regil fueron los invitados de honor en el restaurante vegano gourmet Sublime el domingo pasado. Jett presentó su más reciente anuncio de campaña para PETA, en el cual ella aparece junto a la frase “Soy Joan Jett y soy vegetariana”. Otros destacados invitados fueron Pablo Azar, estrella de la telenovela Corazón Valiente e Iggy Pop, pionero del punk. Pop entregó a Jett, activista vegetariana de mucho tiempo, el galardón al activismo Nanci Alexander, nombre de la fundadora de Animal Rights Foundation de Florida y propietaria de Sublime. Ingrid E. “Joan y Marco aprovechan toda oportunidad a su alcance para hablar de la importancia de ser compasivo con los animales. Ellos son dos de lo más dedicados activistas que he tenido el placer de conocer”, manifestó Newkirk. “La gente escucha a estas estrellas, quienes han ejercido una positiva influencia en innumerables seguidores”.

Los esfuerzos de Jett incluyen el lanzamiento de los vegan/vegetarian starter kits en puestos de la ciudad de Nueva York, protesta contra los crueles métodos de sacrificio de animales de McDonald’s, y grabación de un testimonio sobre vegetarianismo, entre otros. Jett dice, “Si hay algo que amo más que el rock ‘n’ roll, es los animales”. Uno de los múltiples esfuerzos de Iggy Pop fue haber colaborado con PETA en un anuncio en el que se denunció la matanza de focas en Canadá. El trabajo de Regil para promover la alimentación vegana incluye la narración en español de un video de PETA en el que se expone la realidad de la industria de la carne. Él reconoce al veganismo como responsable su mejorada salud cuando dice, “Me siento más joven. Soy capaz de grabar continuamente por horas y aún tener energía la misma energía que al inicio”.

Jett, Pop y Regil forman parte de extensa larga lista de celebridades, como Constance Marie, Ke$sha, Patricia de León, Vida Guerra, Morrissey, Tommy Lee, Tony Kanal, Natalia Villaveces, Sia y Rodrigo y Gabriela, quienes han colaborado con PETA para promover la compasión hacia los animales.

Fort Lauderdale Reception Honors Jett, Television Star Marco Antonio Regil With PETA Awards Presented by Iggy Pop

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Music legend Joan Jett and television host Marco Antonio Regil were the guests of honor on Sunday at South Florida’s gourmet vegan restaurant Sublime. Jett unveiled her brand-new ad campaign for PETA, in which she appears next to the words “I Am Joan Jett, and I Am a Vegetarian.” Other notable guests included Corazón Valiente star Pablo Azar and punk pioneer Iggy Pop. Pop presented Jett—a longtime vegetarian activist—with the Nanci Alexander Activist Award, named for the owner of Sublime and the founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida. PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk presented Regil with PETA’s “One Can Make a Difference” Award for his tireless efforts to promote vegan eating. Photos of the event are available here.

“Joan and Marco take every opportunity to talk about the importance of being kind to animals, and they’re both among the most dedicated activists I’ve had the pleasure of knowing,” says Newkirk. “People listen when these two stars talk, and they’ve had a positive influence on countless fans.”

Jett’s past efforts with PETA include launching the group’s vegan/vegetarian starter kit newsstands in New York City, protesting McDonald’s cruel chicken slaughter methods, and recording a video vegetarian testimonial, among others. Says Jett, “If there’s anything I love more than rock ‘n’ roll, it’s animals.” Iggy Pop previously teamed up with PETA for an ad slamming the Canadian seal slaughter, among other efforts. And Regil’s work to promote vegan meals includes narrating the Spanish version of PETA’s video exposé of the meat industry. He credits veganism with his improved health, saying, “I feel younger. I go on and on, taping for hours and hours, and I still have my energy.”

Jett, Pop, and Regil are part of a long list of celebrities—including Constance Marie, Ke$ha, Patricia de León, Vida Guerra, Morrissey, Tommy Lee, Tony Kanal, Natalia Villaveces, Sia, and Rodrigo y Gabriela—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
